Diner Escargot

The weather becomes colder and it is proper to introduce a very touching and warm story to you- Diner Escargot written by Ogawa Ito. The leading role in this story is good at cooking and comes back to their hometown after breaking up with her boyfriends. What’s worse, she is sad to lose the ability of talking. After she arrives at hometown, she uses her grandmother’s house to operate a restaurant. The most special in the restaurant is that there is no menu in it. The customers can tell the cook what they need or share their stories and she would cook something suitable for them. Also, in this book, it talks about the emotion between the leading role and her mother.

I think this book doesn't talk about big issue but it can touch me a lot. It is a simple literary. However, the feeling it shows to me can strike a deep chord in my heart. Also, I like the food in it because it looks so delicious. Besides this novel, I think you can also read Yoshimoto Banana’s works, for they all talk about life and death and their writing style are alike. Nevertheless, in my opinion, Yoshimoto Banana tells us that we should accept our unhappiness and try to look the bright side, but Ogawa Ito’s attitude is that life itself isn't as bad as we think. Although they use different way to face life, they are very good writers I want to commend to you.

Yoshimoto Banana(吉本芭娜娜)

This week’s topic is different from the past. I want to introduce a Japanese writer to you- Yoshimoto Banana. I have read her works since I was a junior high school student. The first book I read was the Kitchen which was about the life. I couldn’t understand the meaning of this book at that time. What I could feel was the atmosphere of sadness. Although her books are hard to know, I keep reading them whenever she releases the new book. Gradually, I can know a little what she wants to tell readers and realize why she can become famous. Her works can give us a lot of consolation and power to face our life. While reading the leading role’s story, we can rethink our problems and get over our bad moods. Also, I like her temperate but deep words. Her books can smooth my minds and make me feel calm.

Natsume's Book of Friends(夏目友人帳)

Hello everyone.The mid-term exam is around the corner so I want to share an interesting and warming comic book with you to relieve the pressure.Its name is Natsume's Book of Friends. The story is about a boy who could see the ghost. He always feels disappointed for his difference until he meets his most important friend and also teacher – a cat which can talk and has magic power. The boy succeeds to the magic book from his grandmother, which causes a lot of accidents to him. These events make the boy braver and let him have courage to face his fragile mind.

This story touches me a lot. Whenever I feel lonely, I can find warm in it. Through this story, I take an important lesson- no matter who we are, we need to be understood and tolerated.Sometimes, we give someone warmth spontaneously and it may become very important power to them. Remember that the more warm we give other, the brighter future we have.

Eileen Chang -the Hua Li Yuan(華麗緣)

Time flies! Now I want to introduce my favorite writer in Chinese traditional literature-Eileen Chang. She is a very important role in modern literature. Most people think she is pessimistic but I think she is a person who is brave and never gives up her dream. Her words sometimes make us feel cheerless and dispirited. However, if we can read some information about her, we can discover that she is sensitive and full of feeling. She loves her family but it became the biggest harm in her life. What’s more, her lover also betrayed her. All of these events made her disappointed about life. The only way she depended on was writing. Through it, she could regain power. Maybe her words are pessimistic but she never abandoned her life and idea. Among her works, the Hua Li Yuan is my favorite because it is more like her autobiography than a story. In the book, she told a lot of her stories and her feeling when she faced these events. Compared to other famous works of Eileen Chang, I feel it makes me closer to her. In first sight, her books can’t give us warm. Nevertheless, after we read lot’s of them, we can be touched by her inner enthusiasm about life, love, and dream.   

The Big Issue

Today I would show you one of my favorite magazines- The Big Issue. It is a very special magazine which is sold by the workless people. The founder of this magazine wants to help the need not by donating  money but by teaching them how to make a living. For this reasons, he decides to train them and let them have abilities to support themselves. Based on this idea, The Big Issue has been established.

There are a lot subjects in it including introduction of entertainers, art, and so on. Through it, we can get a lot of fun every month. Also, I think this is a great idea to help people without hurting their feeling of self-respect. Well goes an old saying, “Teaching a man how to fish is better than giving him a fish.” Compared to just giving money to them, this is the better way to improve social order. The cost of magazine is just 100 dollars and they can get 50 dollars per after deducting the prime cost. They sell it at the MRT station. I strongly commend this magazine to you.

NANA

   Hello everyone. It’s time to introduce my first favorite book named NANA. This book describes the life of two girls who have the same name. One of them is a singer, and the other is an ordinary girl who is stuck in a relationships and doesn’t know what to do. They meet on the train and soon become the best friends. In the story, they encounter a lot of challenges, including love, friendship, and their dreams. Although some readers may feel this comic is a little pessimistic and too realistic. However, if we can emove its appearance and read its core, it would strike our chord.

    I started reading it when I was in senior high school. It helps me to think about my relationships with other people and also forces me to consider what is the most important in my life. Through its detailed description about the thinking of the characters in the story, I feel that I seem to be one member of them, which allows me not to stop reading it. To me, the comic gives me the power to face my problems, so I want to share it with you.

    Nevertheless, it is a pity that the comic suspends now for the writer is convalescing. Because of that, we can’t read the new series. I really hope the writer can recover soon.

    By the way, some of my friends are afraid to read the same comics or novels with me because I have the nickname- the killer of serial comics and novels. Why they called me that, you can know in the future article.
